A car carrier semi-trailer is a specialized type of trailer pulled by a semi-truck, designed specifically to efficiently transport multiple new or used vehicles simultaneously over highways. Its most distinctive feature is its multi-level design, typically having two (and sometimes three) decks stacked vertically, allowing cars to be loaded on top of each other. Hydraulic ramps fold down for driving the vehicles onto the trailer, and the upper deck(s) can be raised and lowered hydraulically during loading and unloading to accommodate different vehicle heights and provide clearance; once loaded, the upper deck is raised into position for travel. The cars are securely strapped down onto the decks, and a typical double-deck car carrier can transport around 8 to 12 standard passenger cars in a single trip.
